SEO and Internet Based Marketing

By joe cotroneo

Search Engine Optimization (or SEO for short) is a method of making a website easier to find via search engines. A lot of this has to do with the way that the content of a website is written. When properly optimized, a website, article or blog can be found easily by a web user searching for relevant words or phrases - without having to look through the literally millions of websites in the net for what they are trying to find.

Now you have a very rudimentary view of what SEO is and what it does - but what does it mean for you as a writer? This background information about search engine optimization should give you an understanding of how the placement of the kinds of words and phrases which people may be searching for online (these are called keywords and key phrases). By using terms which people are looking for, you make your content easier to find - for instance, let's say that you have written an article on the topic of fly fishing. This means that the keyword that should be targeted in this article is "fly fishing".

Exactly how many times it is used in the article depends on how many times you have been asked to place this keyword within the article. There are articles where the keyword is only to be found in the title but nowhere else in the text and articles where the keyword may be repeated as many as 20-300 times! It really all depends on what the client has asked for in terms of keyword placement within the article or articles.

Another question to be considered is whether just one keyword should be used in an article or a group of keywords which are related to each other - this is again dependant on what your client has asked for. Remember that your client is probably not the only person involved here; they may have clients of their own who want input as to how the articles are done. Typically, a freelance writer will see a job - an article or a set of articles which come with a fairly detailed set of instructions attached. These instructions are usually clear enough about what the client requires; as such, they should be followed as closely as possible.

These instructions tend to be clear and easy enough to follow, with no follow up information needed from the client. However, when your business is writing content for search engine optimization purposes, you will in occasion have a situation where you may need some clarification from a client; in these cases, you should contact them as soon as possible to ensure that there is no delay in delivery and that the article or articles will be ones which your client is pleased with.
