Going camping? Well, don't forget the glow sticks!

By Jim Busby

Glow sticks are the perfect add-in to your camping preparation kit. They're safe, long lasting and fun! Plus they're convenient for those romantic, moonlight walks and midnight runs to the bathroom.

Okay, you've got your tent, your sleeping bag and all the camping essentials - right down to the marshmallows. Hold on, there. Don't forget to pack the glow sticks. What? Glow sticks? Why? Well, because they're fun and they're practical. That's right: practical. And they're better than flashlights or even lanterns - for a whole bunch of reasons.

Glow sticks are easy to carry (there's a handy string attached so you can loop them around your wrist); they're dependable and long lasting. There's no knobs to twiddle or switches to struggle with. Just activate them and they're "good to go" (with a bright, powerful glow) for hours! Some of the larger ones last 12 hours or more.

They never need batteries or replacement bulbs - and you know what a pain finding the right-size bulbs for your flashlight can be! Not to mention all those batteries that wear down so quickly. And glow sticks don't require matches or starter fuel. Just bend them and shake gently to activate (the bending snaps a little glass tube within and shaking mixes the two chemicals together to cause a reaction that results in the glow)

Glow sticks come in all sorts of colors and sizes. You can get all one color so nobody argues over who's got the prettier color or you can color code each kid so you know at a glance where each of them is. Or you can mix and match.

Glow sticks don't give off heat, so they're safe for even the youngest kids - and, best of all, there's no flame! And that's especially important during dry weather, with concerns over forest fires being so prevalent.

What's more, glow sticks don't give off heat, so they're safe for even your youngest campers. Best of all, there's no flame involved - especially important during forest-fire season, when sticks and leaves on the ground are tinder dry and the slightest spark in this dry summer weather could set them ablaze.

Whatever you use them for, glow sticks add a touch of safe, colorful fun to your camping trip, beach party or weekend getaway! Just be sure you've got plenty of 'em to go around, so everybody can have one.

However you choose to use them, glow sticks add colorful, safe fun to your beach party, camping trip or weekend escape. Just be sure you stock up before you head out - because glow sticks are so much fun, everybody'll want one or two - or more. Yeah, they really are that much fun!
