Promoting Someone Else's Product As An Affiliate

By Stu McLaren

We've all had those questions in our business that either stop our train of thought or slow our level of productivity down. Ranging from product creation, affiliate marketing, teleseminars, financial matters, I know in my own business I've come upon hundreds of business questions that I wish I could know the answer to. So, in this article I am going to answer two questions I've had about affiliate marketing.

Here is the first question:

How should you promote someone else's product as one of their affiliates?

There are a variety of methods that you can use to promote someone else's product as an affiliate. Doing a solo email campaign can be effective. Two very effective ways is also using teleseminars and videos. When you really think about it, the list is endless on just how you could actually promote.

It is the impact or response that you are looking for from your promotion, so I would suggest using teleseminars. They are much more intimate and people enjoy being able to interact and it also gives you the opportunity to really address the value of the product. Videos is another tool that I use a lot when promoting other people's product and have had great response from them.

When it comes to promoting products as an affiliate, I personally only promote products that I have either bought myself, used myself or benefited from myself, and the reason being is because then I can truly give my personal opinion and evaluation of the product.

If I am going to promote a product that I haven't even seen or used, how could I really give a recommendation for it? You'll find that it will sometimes put you in an awkward situation if you don't know anything about the product but are promoting it. This helps too when it comes to the promotion because it is much easier and more convincing to say, "Hey, I've used this product. Look at what it did for my business, I really think it will help you this way." You stand out more as an affiliate and create a much stronger pitch then just saying, "Hey, saw this new product, I think you should go get it."

There are a lot of different ways you can promote your affiliate products, finding what you like best and tracking your results using different methods will help you find what will work best.

Here is the second question:

If you are trying to get someone to promote your product because their list is attractive to what you are trying to see, what would be a good percentage to offer?

This really depends. When approaching affiliates and JV partners, they more you can offer them, they more they will want to promote for you because it will work as an incentive. Knowing that though, you have to think about your own business and profitability. You may not be able to give away huge amounts of commission depending on the product cost, time cost and things of that nature.

Take some time, really think about how much you can afford to give away and try to maximize this as much as possible because affiliate and JV partners will be more interested the bigger the commission.
