SEO Link Building Strategies Need Updating in Growing Industry

By Julie Johnson

There is a wealth of strategies that SEOs and link builders have at their disposal, but the best ones are not used nearly enough. You can get much more for your time and money by testing under-utilized but tried and true methods, as well as some creative new ones:

Getting back to the basics is key. The original way of link building was to send a message or call the webmaster of the site you want to a link. This is not remaining popular, due to the time it takes to communicate in this way to each site, having to state your case for each one, but it is, still, effective on a steadfast level.

Too much emphasis is being put on manual points of link building, like directory submissions. These are easy, but can also cause detriment. When something is too simple, it is usually that effective. When an SEO suggests this as a large part of their methods, it can mean they are using outdated means. While using several relevant directories, incorporating large amounts is not recommended.

Make your link building campaign Web 2.0-friendly. Every link builder's goal is to have other people handle the tedious aspects of link building for them, and a well-planned viral media campaign can have that effect. Use "link bait," articles written with the intention of gathering links. Write about sensational, reader-friendly topics and use catchy headlines. Write about trendy news, 'hot topics'. Create fun or useful video content that's attractive to link to and share.

The conventional way of thinking is misguiding in your link building efforts. Be leary of the myths, use ingenuity and you will be a successful link builder.
