Basic Coffee Shop Terms

Offering a large menu to select from is something many coffee shops due. Yet few of them take the time to explain what is in each of the drinks they offer. That can make it difficult to choose something that you aren't 100% sure of such as a basic cup of hot and delicious coffee.

However, if you understand a few terms then figuring out what is available on the menu won't be so difficult. You can take a chance and order something you may find to be delicious without hesitating. If the coffee shop is very busy it may be hard for the staff to take the time to explain it all to you. If you need their assistance try to ask questions during slower times of the day.

Cappuccino is likely one that you have heard about. They are very common with individuals who don't really care for the taste of basic coffee. It contains espresso, steamed milk, and froth. You will see it offered as a double or a single. This generally refers to the size. Find out what the single size is and twice that much is the double.

A latte is a drink you will find in many different types of coffee shops. This is similar but it has more steamed milk than a cappuccino. In fact, 2/3 of they drink is steamed milk. There is also espresso in it with the amount depending on if you want one shot or two. The overall taste will depend on the flavoring you decide to include as well as how much espresso is added.

Froth is what you will find at the top of the latte. You can get it on other types of drinks too if you ask for it. This is a very light and foamy top that tastes delicious. If you haven't tried it before you are really missing out on a treat. Pamper yourself and order something with froth the next time you get to a coffee shop.

If you are looking for something with a sweet taste, then why not try a mocha. This is where you will find a chocolate taste added to your drink. This is a hit for those who really like hot drinks as well as anything chocolate. You may have to try some different locations though before you find a mocha that you are really happy with the flavor of. They don't all taste the same though so don't give up.

An espresso is another term that you will see quite a bit in coffee shops. This is a very strong type of coffee. It is dark and thick and many people order it in order to give them the caffeine they need to get their day going. You will find many drinks in coffee shops have espresso. It won't be uncommon to see signs that you can add another shot of it too for an additional price.

Understanding the coffee shop menu can make it more fun to order a great drink when you arrive. It can take away your inhabitations to stick with your regular drink day after day. It can allow you to experience new tastes and flavors. You will likely discover plenty of great tasting drinks in the coffee shop you love.
